The Arcadia Jazz Band, led by trumpeter Clive Smith, comprises an experienced and dynamic group of musicians who play regularly in venues right across the West Country. They play everything from traditional jazz to more modern music, including be-bop and beyond. The band also features an outstanding guest vocalist, Emma Sanders, whose voice has echoes of Billie Holiday and Anita O’Day.
Founded in 1994, the band has a distinguished history: it has been the support band to the Humphrey Lyttelton Band on nine occasions and has worked with the likes of Kenny Ball, George Melly, Kenny Baker, Helen Shapiro and the Don Lusher Band.
It has also had the privilege of featuring some distinguished professional musicians including Kathy Stobart, John Critchinson and, more recently, Tony Roberts.
Arcadia can be seen performing throughout the South West and can be hired for any event, big or small.
Annual performances include Classics at the Castle at Sherborne Castle, the Annual Charity Summer Fayre at Forde Abbey and a host of other charity events. In addition, the band performs at many private parties, whether on grand country estates or in simple back gardens.
Arcadia Jazz Band is a 'little big band' consisting of trumpet, sax, guitar, bass and drums and, more often than not, our guest vocalist.
